*** About Coit Tower: Coit Tower, also known as the Lillian Coit Memorial Tower, is one of San Francisco's most recognizable landmarks. Erected in 1933 atop Telegraph Hill, financed by the bequest of Lillie Hitchcock Coit to beautify the city she loved, the tower was designed by architects Arthur Brown Jr. and Henry Howard. The tower's art deco style is complemented by beautiful murals painted inside its base, created by 27 different artists and funded through the Public Works of Art Project during the New Deal era. These murals depict scenes of California life during the Depression and are considered some of the finest examples of social realism in American art. Today, Coit Tower offers visitors panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline and the bay, serving both as a historic site and a beloved public space.
